Welcome to
Poweshiek County

Poweshiek County was founded in 1848. The Poweshiek County Courthouse was built in 1858 at the cost of $25,000.00. The present building was raised and a basement dug in the 1930's at an approximate cost of $10,000.00. Taxpayers came by horsedrawn buggy from the surrounding countryside to register deeds, pay taxes and to enjoy a Saturday night on the courthouse lawn.

Local government has come a long way since that era. With modern technology we can now offer a 24/7/365 business format. You may pay your taxes, renew your vehicle registration tags and download more than 40 forms from this site.

We encourage you to use this convenience to your fullest advantage and hope that you enjoy browsing the many links we have provided into other areas of Iowa Government.

We would like to extend a personal invitation to everyone. Please, stop in and view our wonderful, historic building.
